annoyed
I'm so bummed. I noticed today that the photo posts I've been sending to my blog are no longer sent to my hosting site (hillkurtz.com)!!! They are instead hosted on blogger. Why??? They have been sent to my site for YEARS! All of a sudden they change? Now I'm going to have to go through & upload all the photos through my FTP & then replace them on each post. Sigh. What a lot of work. But, as I JUST SAID in a post the main reason to have things on the blog (instead of FB or something) is so I can have control over it & have a full archive of it. I'm just so angry. Why do companies keep "improving" things? It only goes wrong for me & other users when they do this. =(

remis
I feel so remis in my blogging of late. We have been doing so much
lately, going to NYC, going to a TON of movies, seeing old friends...
but somehow not a lot of it is ending up here :( Between posting most
everything on Facebook, putting some pix on flickr and kleeping up w/a
bunch of people on twitter, this blog seems to fall by the way side. I
wish this weren't true.
Somehow it's just easier to put everything on facebook and everyone is
on there. Not many people even come to this page any more (hi M, B,
H&J, A) and actually not many even know about it. But you know why I
like having stuff on here? Because it will always be here. It's hosted
on a server that I can back up & keep an archive of forever. And, I
can reference things. I have often wondered when or where events were
& I will go to one of my blogs (London, LA...) and be able to find it.
You can't do that with facebook. You can look at past stuff but you
can't jump to a date and who knows where it is all kept? How would you
look something up 7 years from now?
So, I say this all the time, but I want to make sure I post things
here regularly. I wish there was a way to post a FB status update &
blog entry at the same time :)

FCP vs Avid
Wednesday night we went to the monthly FinalCutPro Users Group meeting
and this time they were talking about... Avids! As an editor these
days one should definately know how to use both platforms and Avid
just came out with 4.0 which, apparently has some great new things
(mostly taken from FCP).
Also talking was Walter Murch as he's been using FCP since 2004 but is
now on a project using Avid. So he talked a little about what he
likes, & misses about each platform. It was an interesting evening &
I'm glad we went :)
up north
Yesterday we loaded up the car, and I do mean loaded, and hit the road
for the northern regions. We started out late because our car was
getting a tune up & of course they found a ton of stuff wrong with it.
sigh. we had some of it done but that meant the car wouldn't be
finished until Saturday (not friday).
So, instead of leaving btw 9 & 10am we were on the road at 2pm. And,
we brought the cat! Eek! After getting settled on the road we let him
out of his carrier. He investigated a bit but, as is his wont, he was
scared so he ended up under Alex's legs. We figured that as long as
he wasn't under the pedals... right? We even had a lovely cozy little
portable home for him in the back seat but no go. He pretty much
stayed there the whole way. When we got petrol we had to get him into
his carrier before we got out.
We arrived at our friends, the Murches, house just after 9pm and we
were exactly in time to sit down to dinner. They were having a dinner
party for some friends who are going off travelling. We put the cat in
a room upstairs & joined in the fun. It was a great & yummy dinner!
Unfortunately on the way up Alex had started sneezing & feeling crappy
so by tbd end of dinner he was pretty finished. He went upstairs to
lay down with the cat & I stayed for scrumptious desert, tea &
conversation. eventually most people left & after helping to clean up
I got A from upstairs, piled him & the cat in the carc& headed back
south a bit to find the house that my mom is at.
Dashi climbed around the car a bit but ended up sitting on to of the
furni pad on to of all our gear in the back. He surveyed the dark
scenery and looked very cute. We made it to mom's! They have two dogs
and, as usual, Alex found an imediate friend! (animals love him!) But
we were pooped & it was 3am so we fell over into bed, & Dashi cleared
the cobwebs from under it (being a bit scared again).

NYC temp
Man! I have so much to write about! I just never seem to get to it =( It was much easier to write posts on my Palm Treo than my iphone.
Anyhoo, until I get to writing (if ever) about all the movies we've seen & such, and because we're having a fun long weekend in NYC, I thought I'd post a link to the photo album I've got going on Facebook. I think the link will expire (in 2 weeks?) but keep looking for the next few days as I add stuff throughout our trip to New York. The FB app on the phone is easier than emailing them to the blog but I might do some of both. So... join us won't you on our fun little jaunt:
