astro flies... or not
So, Astro Boy came out in the cinemas. Hmmm. It basically flopped ($6.7mil). Bummer.
Having working on it for almost two years & being very passionate about my opinions and about everything I work on I can't honestly say there aren't quite a few things I would have done differently in the movie. But, I would have liked it to have done well at the box office. If nothing else to reward all the hard work that went into it and to keep and create jobs for the people still working at the studio and the ones hoping to make Astro 2. Now, I'm not sure what will happen.
I have obviously seen the film MANY MANY times but only saw the whole completed, mixed, music filled version last Monday at the premiere. Sadly, I don't think I could stand to see it again =( It's too painful. All I see are the things that don't work & the things that I tried to get them to change that still don't work. There are quite a few sequences that are really fun and, as stand alones, work well, but somehow as a whole, not so much.
When I was growing up my Dad would always leave screenings right after they started & I didn't quite understand it. He said he'd seen it too many times but know I fully understand & know it's just too painful. Even in a "great", successful film if you are one of the film makers you can only see what you didn't do right or have time to finish.
So, if you go see Astro Boy please enjoy it! =) And if you stay for the credits you can see my name twice (once as a voice and once for editing) and Alex got his name in the "special thanks" section. Yea!!
Go Astro! =)
