We're off to the ferry to head back to Long Beach & home. This has been so fun! It feels like we were here for a few days, not just about 27 hours. I'm so glad we came. The last time we were here is when Alex's parents were starting off on their amazing sailing journey 8 (i think) or so years ago. We should totally come more often. It is sooooo close to LA but seems like a world away. I think we will be back sooner than 8 years from now :)

kong & ramrod

That's the name of our horses on our ride!

We went parasailing! Wooooo! That was awesome. I so wish I'd brought a camera up there but we got a ton from this view. What a fun birthday so far! :)

island evening

We've walked down the hill to the sea side town for the evening. It's so pretty here & the air smells amazing. Alex has stopped sniffling (& sneezing) for the first time in a couple weeks (it's so sad he's allergic to cats. He likes them so much). Our hotel is a funny little place up on the hill. Kinda run down & odd but we sat by the pool & read, & Alex went swimming and it was pretty fun. So, it will do. There are no phones, TVs or computers so that's a good start.

We walked all along the water front & window shopped and finally ended up at a sea food place (I know, weird for me). I had delicious veggie linguini. Yum. We had wine & desert & sat by the water watching the sail boat masts sway (man I wish I didn't get sea sick!). Now... The STEEP, long walk home. Good for the digestion :) What agreat day!

I took a couple days off work this week so we came out to Catalina Island. It's so nice out here. We thought about going away for a four day w/end but we had the garden party event on sunday & didn't want to leave Dashi for that long. So, overnight it is. Yea! Adventure :)

cutest ever!

Dashi is just so cute we can hardly stand it. He's so much bigger than
when we first met him 3 weeks ago.

Now, we don't want to be "all Dashi, all the time" so I think we're
gonna make a photo gallery that we send our pix to. Then whoever wants
to see him, can but it won't. Fill up my blog posts.

Happy Sunday all!

water cat

Dashi is a very funny kitten and loves water. Any time we're at the sink, in the bathroom or kitchen, and have the water running, he comes running. When the shower is on he jumps up & paces the edge, wanting to come in but, having done that once, knows he shouldn't. Once you're out, he gets in & licks up the water. He loves to drink out of a glass too. With fresh water from the tap. He's a goofball :) Oh, he also plays catch with his foam ball, but that's for another post.

Today is Alex's Dad's birthday & we are so bummed we aren't in England to share the day with him & Jan. Boooooooo. So we are sending love & hugs from here and hope today is the best!!!

I saw this & thought it was way cute. This is for you Howard. Happy day!

If he wants to rest and look out the window at the same time. Dashi is the bestest. :)

must be

Dashi must have been destined to be our cat. This is the spot he's chosen to sleep when he's upstairs (& not on our laps). A book loving kitten!!

Yesterday Alex picked up our kitten from the vet. Turns out... It's a he! They told us it was a she. Oh well. Still cute & fun & small (not as small as we remember). He was totally curious about everything at home. Alex kept him in the big bathroom so he could get used to everything & sat and played with him. When he had to go to his writing group Mel came over to play with kitty. Then I got home after work. Phew! What a lot of new people! :) I brought him upstairs wher he had to explore everything. Finally we played with the "mouse on a string on a stick" for a long while. Then we both fell asleep until Alex got home.

He didn't like being in the bathroom alone when we went to bed at all. He mewed for a long while, which was heartbreaking, but eventually stopped. But at 6am, he was right back at it. Alex went to say good morning and we got ready for the day. I feel so bad for Alex though. He's allergic to cats and will be sneezy & sniffly etc for a couple weeks, which sucks. But, he knew it going in, so I hope it's not unbearable.

It's kinda weird having him there. It doesn't seem quite like it's real, or forever. I've never had pets (besides fish) as an adult and it's a big responsibility. I sometimes wonder if I'm too selfish to be a parent, or pet owner. I like going out whenever or traveling a lot, or sleeping in or having my home "just so". Neither of those things really allow for that. Hmmmm. But Alex gets to spend days with him cause he works at home, so that's fun :)
