better as a brit?

I've been filing things & sorting & when you do that you find al sorts of things to fall into. I fell into the past. I re-read some of my BLOG from London. It was so fun. In my mind I just think about all the posts & have half done sitting in a drafts folder and everything I didn't get a chance to "say". But it turns out I said & wrote a lot. And pretty well too. That's so fun.

It seems as though nothing happens in LA. I guess not as much does, but I can still write about it, I just don't. Work seems to be all consuming. And, lest I forget, the last 8 months in London I wasn't working much at all.

But I think my writing quality was better there. England is such a literary place. It surrounds you. And everyone speaks so well (well, not everyone. But most of the people I know). You can just tell from this past awards season that the brits know what they're doing when it comes to writing. It seeps in if you're living there. My sister found this when she was at school there. I miss it so. Bizarly, I was healthier & tanner when I was there. Weird, eh?

I guess the best thing to do is just keep writing. And reading. Reading good stuff. We've subscribed to the "Guardian Weekly" so maybe that will help. =)

Okay, off to be now. We're starting an adventure tomorrow & I'm very excited. Cold, but excited.

look what i found

oscar picks

I have to honestly say I don't care this year. There's nothing that really stands out in the nominated films. Even the ones that are nominated, the winners are so predictable, and not what I'd pick. Sigh.

The best films of the year weren't even nominated for anything big. "Children of Men" was by far the best film this year. By far. But it didn't get any of "the big 6". it is nominated for editing, cinematography & script. If it doesn't win cinematography there is really no justice in the world. (which means it won't win) "Brick" was a small film at the beginning of the year which almost no one saw. That's a shame. That is the film that should win original screenplay. It was fabulous.

So, I'll watch on sunday (if I don't have to work) and see the pretty dresses and the lame acceptance speeches and hope for better films next year and, more importantly, better nominations.

cute car

Saw this car in the parking lot this morning. Very fun. I needed the smile.

8 sideways is infinity

8 years! Happy 8 years Sweets! I can't believe it's been that long. Eight years ago went to s crew screening of "the Other Sister" & ate at Jerry's Diner in Westwood for our first date. Yes, I remember crazy details like that. It doesn't feel very long, but at the same time, we've done so much.

We've lived in 4 different cities in three different countries. We've taken many road trips. Gazed at the stars. Seen the Northern Lights. Woke up in a bayou. Made short movies. Drunk whisky in Scotland. Seen a gazillion movies. So much more...

Thanks honey. I cna't wait for our upcoming adventures together.

night owl

Why is it that all those morning larks that rule the world, think if you're working late you are slow? Or not good enough at your job? Or something? It doesn't seem fair. I choose not to be at the office at 7am when we're in crunch time. I choose to be here until midnight (or later) because that's when I work the best. I don't think they are slow because they get in early. It just pisses me off. Whatever. That's my mood today. Whatever.

who am i?

I was tiding up a bit yesterday & putting clothes away in the closet. I saw all these great clothes that I rarely wear that I bought in London & some in NYC. It made me miss both of those cities and Paris, so very much. I've been doing that a lot lately. But it made me think. It's not just the cities that I miss, or the convenience of being in a city or the life & energy that is there. What I really miss most about all those cities is who I am when I'm there. I'm a different person. I dress differently, I walk differently. I have more confidence. I just am different. I do't know why. If I did I could bring some of that to LA, but it's not a tangible thing. I miss me.
