half day

Today I actually left the office at a normal hour! Yea! Last night I left at 11:55pm, the "night" before it was 8:30AM! And "night" befor that was 5:00am. The whole week befor was averaging 10pm-11pm-ish. I am so glad this screening is tomorrow. I don't think I could do it much longer. Today was my 22nd work day in a row. There' only so much one can do. I hope they like it. Lots of us worked really hard (not that it doesn't still need work). Right now I just want to sleep.

AM blues

I'm just no good at mornings. Really, really not good. I know 9am is not early in most people's worlds but in mine it is. I really like working later, so working until 10pm, 11pm or later is no problem. Other people can't imagine that. But since the whole world turns around morning people every once in a while I have to have an early meetiing. I so don't think as well, perform as well, anything. Maybe it's cause I don't have kids. All those people are up early and want to go hame early. But there are others (like my husband) who love to get up early & are "done" early.

Time for me to take a nap now.

spirits up

Nothing lifts the spirits at night like a lovely Jamba Juice smoothie. Yum.

You know what the one thing worse than editing on an Avid is? Re-editing on an Avid. putting the first cut together is stupidly difficult but when you try & go to make fixes... Ugh! The frustration is insane. There is no easy way to manipulate the tracks, there is no way to enable/disable clips so you can leave them right next to each other & decide later. You have to play all the picture tracks below the active one, you can't pick & choose. Don't get me started on the amount of steps it takes just to copy/paste something.

Stupid, stupid, stupid (and unecessary!).

That's all for today, for now. :)

renewed faith

I now have some renewed fath in the world & in the youth (youth being a relative term).

"Matt is a 30-year-old deadbeat from Connecticut who used to think that all he ever wanted to do in life was make and play videogames... he quit his job in Brisbane, Australia and used the money he'd saved to wander around the planet until it ran out..."

He took footage of himself dancing with his Elph camera and edited it when he returned. It's FABULOUS!
His first trip he financed himself. The secomd he had a sponsor. I want to do these trips!!!

I reccomend you spend some time at his web site, His About Matt & FAQs are very well written & funny. He's got his journal & maps & lots more. Turn up the volume and Enjoy! I did.

We ordered lunch in today (as usual) and after I had eaten my salad I put the lid back on and noticed the markings on it. I was confused for a minute as it didn't look like anything that would mean "cobb salad" but then I realised it was "TH". That's me. When I write my initials for myself or initialize anything I write "THK" so "TH" doesn't even register. I still can't get used to the initials being mine. Weird.

new goals

The biggest thing that being a feature editor has done for me is change my career goals. Starting on Valiant and every project since, I feel like it's just too frustrating to be near the bottom of the decision making line. Below the "director(s)", the producer(s) and the executive(s), not to mention the "lead" editor.

Sitting hour after hour, implimenting notes that are only making the movie worse, messing up the timing, not addressing the issues and taking out all the funny... can be truly soul crushing. There are quite a few people in this business who just fell into what they are doing but don't necessarally have any "talent". Yet these are the people making all the decisions and who keep working. Drives me nuts, can you tell?

Now, I want to direct. If there are going to be stupid decisions made, I want them to be mine. That doesn't deal with the "executive" issue, but that's another story.

avid = poo

I can't tell you enough how much I dislike working on the Avid. Especially doing revisions. Final Cut is so much better at moving things around and adjusting, it's not even funny. It drives me crazy! Not to mention the fact that everything takes longer, if nothing else, because of the 10 extra keystrokes every adjustment takes. Aaaaahhhhhhhh! Help!

uk dreaming

I'm missing England a lot lately. Life was really good there and we were essentially "on vacation" as both of us weren't working. Anyhoo, I was doing a job a couple weeks ago that was only graphics so I could listen to the radio. Something I can't usually do whilst editing with audio. So I listened to Virgin Radio from london through my iTunes. What fun. I've watched some very English television recently. Then tonight I joined Melis, Mom & Zandra at the cinema to see "The Holiday". Some very quaint englishness. It's always the good english stuff in rom-coms so you don't remember the not so fab stuff. I can't wait to go back. There are certainly some great things to love there. :)

Is this really where we've come to at the local cinemas in our society? That's just sad.

This is what I get for having a job where I sit in a dark room all day with no windows and rarely go to lunch. I came out of the office tonight and everything is wet! It's totally raining! Whew knew? Not me, that's for sure.

We're starting the new year playing "history of the world" board game. Since it's a very long game, I don' know if we'll ever finish...

Happy New Year!!!
