Tony day

Yeasterday was my friend Tony's birthday. Since I happen to be working with
him this week I got to celebrate with him. A lot. =) Wednesday is donut day
at the office, so I had to have one, of course. Then, we all went to lunch
at Islands to celebrate. Then, there was cake upstairs for him -strawberry
cheesecake & chocolate layer cake, yum-. Then after all that we went to
dinner with some of his friends at a lovely place on Melrose & ate pasta.
So, very full by the end of the day.

But it was a very fun day. Yea. Happy b-day marv, uh, Tony. =)

spoof ads for democrats

These are brilliant. There's more but this is the best one. I saw them on americablog.com & dailykos.com has more as well. Wouldn't it be great if the Democrats really ran these on TV?

Enjoy. Here is the first spoof ad:

Here is the Mac ad that it's spoofing:

letting go

I don't really have much to do this week as "they" are all all working out
the notes that came from the screening. But they are doing some work on a
couple scenes to get them going in the pipeline. So, as I sit here I can
hear them working on "my" scene. It's hard. You become attached to the
sequences you've edited. And when someone else works on them (without you
there) it's like someone raising your baby. I just need to let it go & leave
it in the good hands that it's in, but it's hard.

Also, just like yesterday, even if I'm not actually editing it, I should be
in the room. I could help, but obviously, I've done my job, and now I'm a
non entity.

left out

We had our screening today & it went really well, I think. Afterwards we had
a round the room, top-of-the-head not session. Then they broke down to a
smaller group to really discuss where the film would go next.

Obviously the directors, the producer, the executives, and... the two other
editors. Now, I know I was only here for a few weeks to get this screening
together and the other two guys will be continuing on, but I think they
really missed out but not having me there. Being so intimately involved with
it I have some ideas of where it should go now. And I have really good
ideas. Just because I won't be implementing them doesn't mean they shouldn't
hear what they are. I'm good at this. I really am. So, I guess it's their
loss, but really a loss for the show. Bummer.

screenings are bad for the waistline

Another film, another screening deadline. The thing is, is that when the
deadline is coming, editorial basically lives at the office. And they feed
you. A lot.

The production people, having done everything they can & gotten you all the
media they can, don't really know what else to do to help, so they bring in
food. They cater lunch & dinner anyway because you don't have time to leave
the building, but then there's the snacks, the midnight cookies & milk....
It goes on. It's all so good, so you eat it. And, since you are working all
day you just sit in your chair. The most you walk is the occasional bathroom
break down the hall.

Thankfully screenings are not all the time. Phew.

party

We had our first dinner party at our new place last n ight. It's Mom's birthday on Tuesday, so Bunny was in town visiting and they went to a concert on Saturday. I couldn't go as I was working (boo) but it was fun to spend time with everyone at dinner. We got food at Daily Grill as, again, I was working all day, (These 7 day weeks suck) but that's ok, we had the best time. Alex tidied up the place before people got here and the place looks great (upstairs). We have so much more to do but we're getting there. Yea.

So, Happy (pre) Birthday Mom!!! And thanks Bun, Mom & Mel for coming to visit!

good news, bad news

So, the good news is, DirecTV sent us a replacement DVR and is actually the HR10-250! Yea!!! I'm so surprised. I was sure they would send the D*TV version as they don't have their TiVo deal anymore. But they did!

The bad news... it doesn't work either. Sigh!!!! Nothing comes in on the second reciever. Bummer. I tried everything I could think of but nothing works. So now, it has to go back to them too. Sigh, again. I just want to be able to watch my TV & TiVo my shows. Is that so wrong?

go union

I am now officially a member of the Editors Guild in AL, local 700. Isn't that fun. Unlike some others, they don't punish you for working non union, which is good as most animation isn't union. I went to the new mamber meeting today & filled out the paperwork & gave them a huge initiation fee. So fun. Yea! Now, if I could just get a union job... Ahhh, I remember getting overtime $$ for the hours worked. =)
